How to Use the PSP Playstation Store

Sony's PlayStation Portable is a handheld gaming console that allows users to play video games, listen to music, watch videos and browse the Internet. The console allows users to connect directly to the PlayStation Store, which acts as an online retailer. You can download full- or demo-length games, comic books and video clips. You must have a wireless Internet connection to access the PlayStation Store, as well as a memory card to download any purchases.

  Turn on your PSP. Slide the console's Wi-Fi button to the "On" position. Insert a memory card into the slot named "Memory Stick Duo" on the left side of the console.

  Configure your PSP's Internet settings by selecting the "Network Settings" option from the "Settings" menu. Select a wireless network to connect to and enter the network password if applicable. Save your settings and exit to the main menu.

  Highlight the "PlayStation Network" menu and select the "Sign in to PlayStation network" option or the "Create PlayStation Network ID" option. Your PSP will connect to the Internet using the configurations from Step 2. Enter your network ID and password to log in. Create a PlayStation network account if you do not have one by entering the required information. Enter a payment method for your network ID if you plan to purchase downloads.

  Install any network updates if necessary. Your PSP will display a pop-up message if network updates are available. Press the "X" button to begin downloading and installing the updates. Restart your PSP after the updates are installed.

  Enter the PlayStation store by selecting the corresponding option under the "PlayStation Network" menu. Enter your country of residence, language and birth date in the corresponding fields.

  Use the main menu on the left side of the screen to view available downloads by media type. Use the "View All" option to browse all available downloads.

  Browse the messages to view new releases and most popular downloads. Select any message by highlighting it and pressing the "X" button to go to the download page.

  Use the "Search" feature by selecting the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page. Enter your search terms to look for specific downloads.

  Select the "Download" button below any available download to begin downloading the game or application. Select "Add to Cart" to add items to your shopping cart. You can pay for multiple items at once.

  Select the shopping cart icon at the top of the screen to view or edit your shopping cart. Select "Proceed to Checkout" to purchase your media through the payment account associated with your PlayStation Network ID.

  View your downloads through the PSP's home screen. Downloads can be found under the corresponding menu, such as "Videos" or "Games," and will be located on your memory stick.
