How to Fix a Dead Pixel on PSP Video

The Sony PSP has an LCD screen that can become defective during use. A black or "dead̶1; pixel can appear on the screen when a video is playing and reduce the enjoyment of using the portable game console. Fixing a dead pixel so that it is removed from being seen on the LCD screen can be done at home and does not require electronic skill or opening up the PSP. This repair can also be used on other LCD screens, as it is not particular to just the LCD screen of the PSP.

Things You'll Need

  • Cotton towel
  • PSP power supply
  • Soft cloth

Instructions

      Put the cotton towel down on a table. Put the PSP face up on the cotton towel. Plug the PSP power-supply cord into the power adapter socket of the PSP. Plug the PSP power-supply electric cord into the wall socket for AC power.

      Wet the soft cloth with tap water. Wring out the soft cloth so that there is no dripping water.

      Turn on the PSP. Note the area where the dead pixel is. Turn the PSP off. Place a flat area of the soft cloth on top of the PSP's LCD screen where the dead pixel is.

      Hold the PSP down on the cotton towel with your left hand. Put the thumb of your right hand firmly against the soft cloth over the area where the dead pixel is. Apply pressure with your thumb to the area where the dead pixel is to cause the oil inside the LCD screen to spread into the the dead pixel.

      Use your left hand to turn on the PSP while continuing to apply pressure with the thumb of your right hand. Release your thumb and remove the soft cloth. The PSP should no longer display a dead pixel when playing.
