How to Download the Latest Updates for PSP

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is constantly updated by Sony. Some updates are minor software and update fixes. Others introduce entirely new features and programs. If you're using any older model PSP (one that isn't the PSP GO), you will need to download the update to a Memory Stick as it is quite large in size. If you're using the PSP GO, you can ignore any references to the Memory Stick and download the PSP update directly to its 16GB internal hard drive.

Things You'll Need

Memory Stick with at least 28 MB of free space
Newest PSP firmware
Fully charged PSP

Instructions

Aquiring PSP Update

  Insert the Memory Stick card into the card slot on the PSP. Connect the PSP to your computer using the USB cable.

  Turn the PSP on. Go to the "System Menu." Go to "Settings." Select "USB Mode." Your computer will detect the PSP.

  Click "My Computer." Select "PSP/Removable Disk." This will open the root directory of the Memory Stick inside your PSP.

  Right-click on a blank area on your desktop. Select "New Folder." Right-click the new folder and select "Rename." Rename the folder to "PSP".

  Open the PSP folder. Select "New Folder." Right-click the new folder and select "Rename." Rename the folder to "GAME".

  Open the "GAME" folder. Select "New Folder." Right-click the new folder and select "Rename." Rename the folder to "UPDATE". Make sure that all folder names are fully capitalized.

  Download the latest PSP update from "Resources." Save it to the recently created "UPDATE" folder.

  Turn the PSP off and remove the Memory Stick.
Applying PSP Update

  Turn the PSP on. Wait for the system menu to load.

  Insert the Memory Stick with the PSP update you just added.

  Scroll to the "GAME" icon. Select "Memory Stick." Select "Update."
