How Do I Move Memory From One Card to Another on My PSP?

Whether you've purchased a memory stick with a higher capacity or are looking to back up your PSP content, you will need to transfer your data from one memory stick to another. This is done by connecting your PSP to a computer and managing your files much in the same way you would manage standard computer files.
  1. Preparation

    • Begin by inserting the Memory Stick Pro Duo that is currently housing your content into your PSP. Power on your console and, using a USB connector cable, plug it into your computer. You will need to enter the ̶0;USB Connection̶1; mode: Locate ̶0;Settings̶1; on the cross media bar and scroll down to ̶0;USB Connection̶1; and press ̶0;X.̶1;

    Copying Files Off the Memory Stick

    • Once the PSP has entered the ̶0;USB Connection̶1; you'll notice a menu pops up on your computer stating that a new device has been found. Choose the option on the menu that allows you to open and view the files. This will give you access to all the sub folders located on the PSP. Before you investigate these files, create a new folder on your computer's desktop. Label the folder ̶0;PSP Memory Stick Copy.̶1; Don't add any sub folders as these will be copied over from your PSP. Return to your PSP files and highlight each of the folders. You'll notice these folders are listed as ̶0;Music,̶1; ̶0;Pictures,̶1; and ̶0;Video̶1; among others. Copy the entire folder over; your PSP will not be able to locate the files once they are on the new stick. Copy all of these folders and the files within into the ̶0;PSP Memory Stick Copy̶1; folder you previously created.

    Placing Files on a New Memory Stick

    • Exit out of the ̶0;USB Connection̶1; with your PSP by pressing the ̶0;Circle̶1; button. Remove your memory stick from the console and insert the new stick you wish to move your content onto. Once inserted, reenter the ̶0;USB Connection̶1; and the PSP will once again be displayed on your computer, only this time it won't have any files or sub folders associated with it. Highlight and copy the sub folders within the ̶0;PSP Memory Stick Copy̶1; folder and paste them into your PSP folder. If you're using a memory card that already has PSP content, just copy the files over instead of the folders. Make sure all files go into their correct location. A music file in the ̶0;Game Save̶1; folder will not be playable on the PSP. Once all files and folders have been copied you can exit ̶0;USB Connection̶1; and access all your files from your PSP.

    Tips

    • Check your computer to see if it has a memory card slot that is compatible with the Memory Stick Pro Duo. If it is, you can just insert the memory sticks directly into your computer and not have to connect your PSP at all. If you are transferring content from your original PSP and memory stick to a PSPgo which features an internal hard drive, you will need to physically connect your PSPgo console to your computer when it comes time to transfer the files as there are no memory sticks involved with PSPgo storage.
