How to Replace a UMD Switch in a PSP

The PlayStation Portable game console̵7;s unified media disc (UMD) drive will not work if the UMD switch is broken. This makes playing UMD game discs impossible. Because the UMD switch is an integral part of the UMD drive, replacing the switch requires repacking the entire UMD drive. Replacement UMD drives are available at PSP parts supply store, and replacing the UMD drive so that there is a working UMD switch can be performed in a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloth
  • Phillips jeweler's screwdriver
  • Flat head jeweler's screwdriver
  • Needle nosed pliers
