̶0;Spyro the Dragon̶1; is the original game that started the series. It was released for the PlayStation in 1999 and rereleased for the PlayStation Network in 2007. In this game, Gnasty Gnorc freezes all of the dragons in the Dragon Worlds at the beginning of the game because he heard them insulting him. Spyro the Dragon was spared because he is so small that the freezing spell shot over his head. His goal is to free the other dragons and defeat Gnasty Gnorc. Each level requires the player to collect gems and rescue dragons in order to progress through the game. The bosses on most levels are optional for the player to fight. Several levels allow the player to fly freely completing the various obstacles and objectives he or she is presented with.

̶0;Spyro: Ripto̵7;s Rage!̶1; is the second game in the series. It was released for the PlayStation in 1999 and rereleased on the PlayStation Network in 2009. Spyro decides that he needs a vacation after the events of the last game and goes to the land of Avatar. Ripto, meanwhile, destroys the portal back to the Dragon Worlds and begins to take over the worlds of Avatar. Elora and the Professor convince Spyro to help free Avatar in exchange for a way home. The gameplay is similar to ̶0;Spyro the Dragon,̶1; but adds a few additional powers the player can buy as he or she progresses through the game.

̶0;Spyro: Year of the Dragon̶1; is the final installment of the game developed by Insomnia Games. It was released for the PlayStation in 2000 and rereleased for the PlayStation Network in 2009. Spyro and the other dragons are celebrating the Year of the Dragon when the game starts. The Sorceress uses this opportunity to send her servant Bianca to invade the Dragon Worlds and steal 150 dragon eggs. Spyro must pursue the Sorceress into the Forgotten Worlds to recover the stolen dragon eggs. A new feature of this installment of this series is a variety of seven new playable characters other than Spyro. The player must use these characters to beat many of the levels in the game.
