Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Opting to use a top-down isometric view reminiscent of the first "Grand Theft Auto" game, "Chinatown Wars" takes place in the same world as "Grand Theft Auto IV": the crime-riddled Liberty City. Players take control of Huang Lee, a man tasked with delivering an ancient sword to his uncle after his father's murder. The game's Metacritic score of 90 indicates universal acclaim, so if there is one Rockstar PSP game to buy, this is it.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
The first "Grand Theft Auto" game Rockstar developed for the PSP. Taking place in the same Liberty City as "Grand Theft Auto III," "Liberty City Stories" sees players taking on the role of Tony Cipriani, a former mobster trying to bring order to Liberty City's chaotic underworld while seeking vengeance against those who wronged him. Rockstar adapted "Grand Theft Auto III's" third-person control scheme to Sony's handheld device and racked up a Metacritc score of 88 in the process.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
A side-story to "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," "Vice City Stories" tells the tale of Vic Vance as he rises to power in the "Grand Theft Auto" universe's version of Miami. Using the same control scheme as "Liberty City Stories," "Vice City Stories" offers a complete Grand Theft Auto experience in a hand-held package, and a Metacritic score of 86 makes it a safe bet.
The Warriors
Based on the 1979 Walter Hill-directed cult classic, "The Warriors" is a modern beat-em-up following the same major storyline as the movie. Your gang is trapped far away from your Coney Island stronghold and you must fight your way through New York City's colorful and elaborate gangs to make your way home. The PSP version of "The Warriors" garnered a Metacritic score of 81.
Beaterator
"Beaterator" is less a game and more of a portable music mixer. Allowing you to mix a wide variety of audio tracks by rearranging them and adding samples and sound effects, the goal of "Beaterator" is to let anyone become an amateur recording studio engineer. While not a full-fledged music mixer, the game's Metacritic score of 80 indicates it was successful for most critics.
Manhunt 2
Arguably one of the most controversial games of all time, "Manhunt 2" places you in the role of Daniel, a former doctor now trying to escape a prison. The game became noteworthy when it initially received an Adults Only rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. Rockstar censored the game to get a Mature rating, but ultimately the game was not well received either way. With a Metacritic rating of 69, "Manhunt 2" is one of the only Rockstar PSP games to not receive at least above-average reviews.
