How to Play UMD Movies on a PSP

One of the features of Sony's PSP handheld gaming system is the ability to play movies on universal media discs, or UMDs. This allows users to play feature-length movies on the PSP, which is ideal for gamers on the go. Several popular movies have been released on the format, such as "District 9," "Casino Royale," and "Year One." Only the 1000, 2000 or 3000 series PSPs can play UMD movies, as the PSP GO does not have a UMD slot.

Things You'll Need

PSP series 1000, 2000 or 3000 system
UMD movie disc

Instructions

  Turn the system on and highlight the "Video" section of the menu.

  Open the UMD disc cover on the back of the PSP.

  Slide the UMD movie disc into the system with the label facing toward the back of the PSP. Close the disc cover.

  Select the UMD icon on the PSP's menu with the "X" button.

  Select the icon for the movie you wish to view with the "X" button. The movie will begin playing.

  Press the "Triangle" button during playback to display the control panel. Select a function on the control panel, such as "Pause," to activate that function. Press "Triangle" again to clear the control panel.
