How to Replace the Analog Stick on a PSP Slim & Lite

Replacing the analog joystick on a PSP seems like it would be an intense undertaking, but the kind folks at Sony have actually done a great job of making repairs for the PSP simple and quick. Once you get the PSP cover off, the analog stick will just pop right out. This goes for all PSP models except the PSP Go.

Things You'll Need

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • New analog joystick assembly

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn of your PSP by sliding the the power button up. Remove the battery after taking off the battery cover. There are two very small screws underneath the battery that need to be removed. Remove them with your screwdriver.

      Remove the two screws on the opposite side of the battery. Remove the final screw on the bottom edge of the PSP. Place all five screws to the side, making sure not to lose them.

      Locate the analog joystick assembly on the lower left side of the front of the PSP. Pop out the joystick assembly simply by pulling out and up very gently. Once the old assembly is out, you can simply pop the new joystick assembly in.

      Place the PSP cover back onto the PSP and replace all of the screws into the PSP, securing the PSP cover. Turn the PSP on and test out the new analog joystick.
