How to Use Datel Battery Service Tool for PSP

The Datel battery-service tool for the PSP allows you to do the same thing that a Pandora battery does--namely, install custom software onto your device, allowing you to play homebrew games. Homebrew is another name for user-created games, which usually are not as graphically inclined as official PSP games, but are free. The Datel battery puts your PSP into service mode, which allows you to flash the new PSP software onto it. This software is called custom firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PSP and remove all peripherals, including the memory stick, battery and any UMD game in the UMD drive. Also, make sure the charger is not inserted into the PSP.

    • 2

Insert your magic memory stick into the PSP card reader. Now, insert your Datel service battery into the PSP. Your PSP will turn on automatically and you will be presented with a black screen with a list of options that your Datel battery can perform.

    • 3

Press the "X" button on the PSP gamepad to install the custom firmware. You will be asked to confirm this decision by pressing "X" again. Press it. Wait as your PSP is upgraded to custom firmware.

    • 4

Press "X" again to restart your PSP after the Datel service battery tells you to. Your PSP will recycle its power and restart, bringing you to your PSP home menu. Remove the Datel service battery and the magic memory stick, and replace them with your regular peripherals.
