How to Make a Magic Memory Stick With Total Newbie

The popularity of the PlayStation Portable game console has led owners to find ways to modify it to do things that Sony does not officially sanction. This is called "modding" the PSP, and the changes to the operating system open the door for adding programs and services created by a community of PSP users. Modding the PSP requires putting special programs onto a memory card to turn it into a Magic memory stick. The process can be simplified by using the Total Newbie Installer software on a Windows-based computer.

Things You'll Need

Windows-based computer
TotalNewbieInstaller software
Memory stick pro memory card
PSP USB connector cable

Instructions

  Download the "TotalNewbieasyInstaller" program to the desktop of the computer. Unzip the archive. Restart the computer.

  Insert the memory stick pro memory card into the memory slot on the PSP. Turn the PSP on. Navigate from the Home menu to the USB mode.
  
  Connect the PSP USB connector cable to the PSP and to a USB port on the computer.

  Run the "start.exe" program inside the TotalNewbieeasyInstaller folder.
  
  Select the "Universal Unbricker" option when the screen appears. Wait as it creates files that are transferred to the memory stick pro in the PSP.

  Download the "registry" and "kd" files from the Internet to the desktop of the computer.

  Go to "Start," "My Computer," "Devices," and click on the icon of the memory stick pro memory card.
  
  Drag the "registry" and "kd" files into the root of the memory stick pro memory card. Wait as the files copy over to the memory card.

  Navigate from the USB mode to the Home menu on the PSP. Turn the PSP off. Disconnect the PSP USB connector cable from the PSP and from the USB port of the computer.
  
  Remove the memory stick pro memory card that has now been turned into a magic memory stick with the TotalNewbieeasyInstaller program.
