Modifying the PSP
Turn on the PSP. Navigate to the USB mode from the Home menu. Insert a formatted Memory Stick Pro in the memory slot of the PSP. Connect the USB PSP connection cable to the PSP. Connect the other end of the USB PSP connection cable to a USB port on the Windows-based computer.
Run the web browser on the computer. Download the ̶0;Dark-Alex Custom Firmware̶1; from its website to the desktop of the computer (see link in Resources).
Click on the downloaded ̶0;CHAP1̶1; file to decompress it to a file called ̶0;PSP̶1; on the desktop.
Drag the PSP file from the desktop into the root folder of the Memory Stick Pro. Go to ̶0;Start,̶1; then ̶0;MyComputer̶1; then ̶0;Devices.̶1; Press ̶0;Yes̶1; if it asks to overwrite any files. Wait for the file copy to be completed.
Press the icon of the Memory Stick Pro to eject it from the computer. Navigate from the USB mode back to the Home menu on the PSP. Turn off the PSP. Remove the USB connector from the PSP and from the USB port of the computer.
Turn on the PSP. Navigate from the Home menu to the ̶0;Game̶1; directory. Select the ̶0;Memory Stick̶1; menu. Highlight the ̶0;Custom Firmware-Proof of Concept̶1; file.
Press the \"X\" button to run the Custom Firmware-Proof of Concept file. Wait as the files are installed and for the PSP to turn itself off and then on again.
Turn off the PSP by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Turn it back on while holding down the ̶0;R̶1; button. Wait for the recovery mode screen to appear. Type in the command noted on the screen to restart the PSP at the Home menu.
Installing the Keyboard Modification
Go to the Noobz website and download the ?Key file to the desktop of the computer (see Noobz link in Resources). Click on the file when it has downloaded and follow the directions to decompress the folder onto the desktop. Restart the computer.
Take the modified PSP and turn it on. Go to the USB mode setting. Attach the PSP USB connector to the PSP and the other end to the computer̵7;s USB port.
Navigate to the PSP̵7;s memory stick inside of the ̶0;Devices̶1; section of the computer. Copy the ̶0;MS_ROOT̶1; contents (from the ?Key file) into the root of the memory stick in the PSP.
Quit the ?Key program. Click on the icon of the PSP in ̶0;Devices̶1; to eject it from the computer. Remove the PSP USB connector from the computer̵7;s USB port and from the PSP.
Go to the ̶0;Games̶1; menu on the PSP. Run the ?Key installer. Choose ̶0;No̶1; to the first choice presented and ̶0;Yes̶1; to the second choice. Wait for the installer to finish. Turn off the PSP
Turn on the PSP. Go to the ̶0;Plug-in̶1; settings and select the ̶0;IR plugin̶1; to activate the Targus keyboard. Go back to the Home menu and turn the PSP off.
Turn on the PSP. Wait for the Home menu to appear and then use the Targus infrared keyboard to move around the Home menu selections and enter in data.
