How to Download Software 3.90 on PSP

Owners of the Sony Portable PlayStation (PSP) system are given the ability to play games, movies, music and even surf the Internet on a portable device the size of a cell phone. What is even better about the PSP is its ability to give users updates to important system software via the built-in update program. Recently, Sony released the 3.90 version of the PSP software. Updating to this latest version is quick and simple and gives you even more control and options on your PSP.

Things You'll Need

  • Sony PSP, fully charged
  • Inserted memory stick with at least 22 MB free
  • Wireless Internet connection on PSP

Instructions

      Flip the WLAN switch on the PSP unit to the "On" position. Power the unit "On."

      On the main menu, navigate to the "Settings" menu and select "System Update." From the list of available wireless networks that appears, select the WLAN network. The PSP will connect automatically to this network and display the available 3.90 system update.

      Once the notification screen appears giving you information about the update, press the "X" button to begin the download process. Leave your PSP on and the memory stick inserted during this entire download.

      Once the download completes you will be greeted with a prompt to start the installation process. Press "X" to begin this process and continue to press "X" to navigate through the "User Agreement" and "Legal Warning" screens.

      Once the installation begins, a progress bar will appear notifying you of how much longer it will take. Once this progress bar is full, you will need to press "X" to restart the PSP system.

      After the system reboots, it will be fully operational with the 3.90 software update. At this point, you can delete the downloaded update file off the memory stick if you choose to do so.
