How to Make a Slim Pandora Battery

Sony's PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 consoles are both known as the PSP Slim. They come preinstalled with official Sony firmware. The term "homebrew" refers to any user-created programs, utilities and hacks that allow the PSP to function in ways unintended by Sony. To use homebrew applications on your console, you must use a modified PSP battery, or Pandora battery, to "trick" the console into installing custom firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Pry apart the two sides of the PSP battery with the razor blade.

    • 2

Remove the top half of the casing and set it aside. Be careful not to damage the three metal connectors at the top of the battery; they are unprotected with the casing removed.

    • 3

Flip over the green circuit board on the right side of the battery. It is attached to the battery casing at the bottom with hinges.

    • 4

Locate the large black chip in the center of the board and look for a smaller black chip directly below it. The correct chip will be labeled either "C04" or "IC04." The left and right sides of the chip each have four small silver pins connecting it to the circuit board.

    • 5

Locate the bottom-right pin and notice that there is a silver path connecting the "IC04" chip to the larger black chip. Follow the path until you reach the number "19" printed on the circuit board. Cut carefully through the silver connecting line here with the razor blade.

    • 6

Flip the circuit board back into the case and replace the top half of the battery case. Secure the two halves together with black electrical tape.

    • 7

Place the Pandora battery in your PSP and power on the console. If the screen remains black and the green power light comes on, the battery is functioning correctly.
