How to Make a PSP a TV Remote

One of the many features present on Sony's PlayStation Portable hand held gaming system is its ability to be used as a universal remote control. The PSP has an infrared port located on the top of the unit that allows it to communicate with devices like televisions. The PSP does not inherently come with this feature, however. You must download and install a program. Once you do, you can enjoy the benefits of using a PSP as a remote control.

Download an application called "PSP Universal Remote." This is the program that will allow you to use your PSP as a universal television remote control. It can be found online at various websites. It is important to note that it is a third-party application that is not endorsed in any way by Sony.

    • 3

Use your USB link cable to connect your PSP to your computer.

    • 4

Open the "My Computer" folder on your desktop, then open the file that represents your connected PSP.

    • 5

Open the folder labeled "Game" in your computer's "PSP" directory. Note that on some model PSP's this folder may be called "Game150."

    • 6

Copy the folders extracted from the download application's archive into this folder on your PSP's memory card.

    • 7

Disconnect your PSP from your computer.

    • 8

Turn on your PSP and access the "Memory Card" option on your device's main menu. Under the "Games" folder, there will now be a listing for the PSP Universal Remote application. Press the "X" button to initiate it. You can now use your PSP as a universal television remote control.
