History
The PSP 1000, the first design of the PlayStation Portable, was released in the United States in spring 2005. The 2000 model was released in 2007 and dubbed PSP Slim and PSP Lite.
Portability
Gamers can more easily play on the go with the PSP 2000, which is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent smaller than the 1000. The 2000 added a microphone port and support for Skype communication software.
Disk Drive
The PSP 1000 features an ejecting disk drive to hold game disks. The PSP 2000's disk drive opens in the back of the console. Gamers slide discs into place.
Added Features
The PSP 2000 came with 64 mb of internal memory, compared to the 1000's 32 mb. Game data can be stored on the 2000 for faster loading. The newer system added a video-out port so that movies, games and music can be viewed on a television set.
Availability
Neither the PSP 1000 nor the 2000 are in production. They have been replaced by the PSP 3000 and PSP GO. Gamers still can purchase one of the earlier models from some retailers.
