How to Save UMD Games on a PSP

Even though the PSP is all about portable gaming, that doesn't mean you'll finish an entire game during your morning commute or that endless family road trip. When you can't finish a game, you'll need to save your data so that you can return when you have more time. Saving the game data from your collection of UMD games can be done with the purchase of a memory stick for your PSP. You can also save your game when you know the next level features a boss who will likely send you to the game over screen.

Instructions

  1. Saving Games

    • 1

Insert a Memory Stick Pro Duo into the memory stick slot of your PSP. The stick should have enough room to house your saved content. Check the back of the UMD case in the bottom left corner to see the required memory. It will usually be around 300KB.

    • 2

Insert the UMD of the game you are playing and launch it from your PSP's main menu under the "Games" heading.

    • 3

Play the game as you normally would, but when you wish to stop playing the game, you have two options, saving the game or suspending the data.

    • 4

Read the game's manual to find out if the game features save points or can be saved at any time. Games that can be saved any time can be done so by choosing "Save" from the game's menu screen. If the game features save points, find one before entering the save menu.

    • 5

Choose "New Save Game" from the PSP's save menu. You can save as many files as there is space left on your memory stick. Press "X" to confirm the save. After the data has been backed up, you will receive confirmation that your game has been saved.

    • 6

Continue your game by selecting "Load" from the game's main menu. This will set you back in the game at your save point or the area you saved the game in.

    Suspending Saves

    • 7

Access the in-game menu of your UMD game and locate the system settings. Under this menu, look for the option that is labeled "Suspend Data" or "Quick Save".

    • 8

Choose the "Suspend Data" option. You will not be given the option of where to save the data; it will be done automatically.

    • 9

Power off the console or exit to the cross media bar after suspending the data. When you want to continue, choose "Continue" from the game's main menu. You will start from the exact moment you suspended the game. In doing so, this data will then be erased.
