How Do You Get the Internet Browser on PSP?

A Hidden Browser

• PSP firmware runs the PSP, and without it the device would be rendered useless. This is similar to a computer operating system. Before the introduction of newer PSP software, browsing the Internet on Sony's portable gaming device was next to impossible. This changed with the discovery of a little hack that was available to people who purchased Wipeout Pure, a PSP game. When the game was inserted into the PSP drive, an exploit was discovered that made an Internet browser magically appear when playing the game. This exploit was found very quickly, but Sony was very quick to counteract this exploit in the shape of a System Update that offered a Sony Network Internet Browser.

• The easiest way to install a browser onto your PSP is to update the system firmware. Doing this requires network access via the PSP Wi-Fi connection, which is accessible without the use of an Internet browser. Once you have sorted out the Wi-Fi connection and have network access, click on the "Network Update" icon, located all the way to the left of the PSP menu. You will be asked if you agree to the conditions of the new update. Select "Yes" and then press the "X" button to install the new update. This update will install the latest system firmware, which will automatically install an Internet browser onto the PSP system. When you are installing the new update, make sure you do not turn off either the PSP or the Wi-Fi connection, as the partial update will completely render the PSP useless and Sony will have to fix it.

Accessing the Browser

• Once everything is installed, you can access the Internet browser by going all the way to the left side of the PSP menu and clicking the "Browser" icon. You will be brought to the home page of your browser where you will be able to access any website. Set favorites, and refresh and save webpages just like on your computer Internet browser.
