How to Turn PC Into Access Point for PSP

An "access point" in computer networking terms is a device that enables other devices to connect to a wireless Internet network. The Sony PlayStation Portable video game system, in addition to running any of the hundreds of video game titles available, can also connect to the Internet. The device has a built-in Web browser that allows you to view any Web page you'd like whenever you are in range of an Internet connection. You can turn your PC into an access point for a PSP in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a wireless router. This is a device that broadcasts your computer's Internet connection over a span of around 60 feet (depending on the model). This will allow any compatible device in the area (in this case, your PSP) to connect to the Internet without the use of Ethernet cables.

    • 2

Plug your wireless router into your computer's modem using an Ethernet cable. This will send Internet signals obtained by your router out "over the air" for use by your PSP.

    • 3

Connect your wireless router to your computer using an Ethernet cable. This will ensure that, in addition to allowing wireless devices to connect to your Internet connection, your computer will still be able to get online the way it's always been able to.

    • 4

Turn on your PSP and go to the "Network Settings" menu option. Select "Infrastructure Mode," and then "New Connection." This will tell your PSP to search for any available wireless connections in the area.

    • 5

Select the home network you've created from the list of available networks on your PSP. This will tell your PSP that it can connect to the Internet using the wireless signal provided by your newly created access point. You can now use your PSP's Web browser to view any website you'd like.
