On the Big Screen
The PSP Slim differs from its predecessor in how it connects to your television set. With the original PSP, you could use composite or component cables to display video and picture files on a television screen, but with the PSP Slim, you can also play PSP games on your television. To do this, you need a high-definition TV and a set of component cables that are compatible with your PSP. Attach these cables to your television and console, then power on the system. When you hold the "Display" button, which has a symbol on it that resembles a square, your PSP's display will be transferred to your television. You will still navigate the menu with your PSP, and when you begin a game you can use your PSP as a controller. To return the display back to your PSP, press the "Display" button again.
Portable Media Player
With a more compact design than the original PSP, the PSP Slim is ideal as not only a gaming device but also a music and video player. First, download Media Go to manage your content and easily drag and drop files onto your PSP in a similar fashion to an iPod. Next, download PSP Video 9, which is a conversion software that takes any video format and transforms it into a compatible format for your PSP. Both these programs are supported by Sony and can help you increase the ways in which you use your console. If you're going to use your PSP Slim as a media player, invest in an 8GB or 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. Larger memory capacity means more files can be stored so you can take your entire music library on the go. If you have a large movie or music collections, consider purchasing one memory stick for each media type, then swap them out on the go.
Using Extra RAM
The PSP Slim featured an increase in RAM from 32MB to 64MB. While this change might not seem to have an impact on your gaming, you can actually use this increase to your advantage when accessing the Internet. Starting with version 2.7 of the PSP firmware, Flash is now supported by the console. Websites are available that offer Flash games for use on the PSP, and with the added RAM you can access these games without having to worry about receiving a "Memory Full" error in your web browser. Simply update your PSP to the latest firmware, then open a browser window on the handheld and visit a website such as PSPFlashGaming.com. This added RAM also decreases the loading times of games, meaning you'll be playing games faster than with the previous PSP model.
