How to Play PSP 2001 on a Standard TV

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) 2001, also called the PSP Lite, is the first PSP to support output to television sets. Sony sells cables made for a variety of television input types separately from the PSP, and, once you have the hardware, connecting your PSP so that you can play on a larger television screen is a relatively simple process.

Things You'll Need

  • Composite, S-Video, Component or D-Terminal cable

Instructions

    • 1

Check your television's input formats. You will have to purchase an appropriate cable to connect your PSP. Currently, Sony sells cables for Composite, S-Video, Component or D-Terminal inputs.

    • 2

Insert the cable's PSP-compatible connector into the output slot labeled "Video Out" on the bottom of the PSP. Insert the other side into your television set.

    • 3

Turn on your TV and make sure that it is set for the appropriate input format. For instance, most televisions have separate "AV" channels below the standard number channels for the various inputs.

    • 4

Turn on the PSP. Go to the main menu and select "Settings." Choose "Connected Display Settings," then choose the aspect ratio of your television (4:3 or 16:9 for widescreen).

    • 5

Press and hold the "Display" button on the PSP for at least five seconds. The PSP should then send the feed to your television instead of the LCD screen.
