How Do I Get Pictures on My PSP?

Putting pictures on your PSP is a relatively easy way to customize the look of your system. It's also a convenient way to transfer picture files to another computer, PSP or a PlayStation 3. To get the best results, there are a number of things to note before starting.
  1. Connecting the PSP to the Computer

    • To place pictures onto your PSP system, connect the USB cable from the PSP into a computer. Make sure the PSP is either fully charged or plugged into an outlet. You will also want to have a memory stick inserted into your system with empty space on it to store the picture. Once connected to your computer, turn the system on and the computer should recognize the system as a memory stick reader, much like a hard drive or CD-ROM drive.

    Transferring Images

    • Right click on the file of the picture you want to download and click copy. Open the PSP drive icon and there should be a number of folders available including Movies, Games, Pictures and PSP Saved Data. Click and open the Pictures folder, then right click on the folder to paste the picture you copied onto your PSP. Wait a couple of seconds while the image is transfers before adding the next picture. To disconnect your PSP safely, click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon on the bottom right of the Windows task bar.

    Other Things to Remember

    • Because the screen size of the PSP is much smaller than a typical computer monitor, the resolution is also much less. In addition, because the PSP uses a widescreen ratio for display, it's important to keep the resolution in a similar ratio. By reducing the size of your photographs beforehand, you can reduce the amount of space the image files take up. The resolution for a PSP is 480 x 272. If you are using an older model PSP that hasn't been updated in awhile, there is a limit as to what type of image files you can display on your system. If the firmware version is before 2.00, only JPEG file types are accepted. If the firmware is more current than 2.00, the system will support the image formats of JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF and BMP.
