How to Create a Pandora Battery on PSP

Normally, you cannot downgrade the operating system on a PlayStation Portable. The Pandora battery is a modification that can accomplish that. It also can be used to recover, or unbrick, the PSP when it locks up. The use of the Pandora battery allows for greater control over the PSP through programs created by others.

Things You'll Need

  • PC with an Internet connection
  • Mini-USB cable
  • Exacto knife
  • Safety pin

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PSP and format a memory stick. Go to USB mode on the PSP and connect the device to a USB port on your computer. Download TotalNewbieasyInstaller to the PC's desktop. Run the application and select "Install the Universal Unbricker" from the menu. Drag the registry and kd files from the Universal Unbricker into the root folder of the PSP memory stick. Click on the memory stick to eject it, turn off the PSP and disconnect the USB cable.

    • 2

Open the battery of the PSP with the Exacto knife. Find the connector labeled "ICO4" or "CO4." With the safety pin, remove the fifth pin on the battery counting from the bottom left. Put the battery back together.

    • 3

Test the battery by inserting it back into the PSP with no memory stick inserted. If the power does not come on, check that the correct connector was cut. If the power comes on, run the Pandora battery. Turn off the PSP.

    • 4

Turn on the PSP with the memory stick that was created in the PC inserted into the PSP. Press the "X" button when the MS LED and WiFI LED glow. The PSP will stay on for five or six minutes before powering off.

    • 5

Remove the battery and the memory stick from the PSP. Plug in the charger and turn on the PSP to see that either 3.7 M33 or 3.71 M33-2 firmware is now in operation.
