How to Change the PSP Game Screen

The Sony PlayStation Portable is a handheld gaming device, so there's always the possibility of dropping it. Most of the time, the part that breaks is the screen. Sony advises people to send in their PSPs to have the screens replaced, but if you want to save time and money, you can do it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Sony PSP. You'll be working closely with the interior electronic components and you might damage them if the PSP is on.

    • 2

Remove the screw on the bottom of the PSP, right below the "PSP" logo that appears on the front.

    • 3

Remove the battery cover on the back of the PSP and take out the battery.

    • 4

Remove the two outermost screws (the ones that are closest to the side of the PSP) inside the battery compartment. You'll have to peel off the warranty sticker to expose the screws.

    • 5

Remove the two screws on the opposite side of the PSP (the memory stick side).

    • 6

Pull of the front frame (the faceplate) that surrounds the LCD screen.

    • 7

Use the screwdriver to gently lift the button bracket off the PSP screen and then use it again to lift the screen up so that you can fold it over with your hand. Be gentle when lifting the screen because it's still attached to the PSP's motherboard by two flat cables (a large one and a small one) that can easily be torn.

    • 8

Pull out the two flat cables and the screen will be disconnected from the PSP.

    • 9

Position the new LCD screen the same way as the old one and insert the flat cables into the PSP.

    • 10

Flip the screen down into place and replace the button bracket.

    • 11

Lay the front panel back on top of the LCD screen.

    • 12

Replace the four screws that you removed from the back of the PSP, put the battery back in and seal it with the battery cover.

    • 13

Replace the screw you removed from the bottom of the PSP.
