How Do I Get My PSP Connected to the Internet?

The Sony PlayStation Portable is a hand-held gaming console that can be used in a variety of ways. It's basically a small computer. The PSP can be used to save photographs, play music and videos and as a Web browser. All you need to surf the Web with the PSP is to have the network settings of a computer with Web access. Enter the information into the PSP and you can browse the Internet.

    • In order to connect your PSP to the Internet, you'll need the items that will allow you to have a wireless Internet connection. These items include a computer with Internet access, a DSL or cable modem, a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point or a wireless broadband router, and the settings that are necessary to connect to the network. Making the connection is similar to connecting any other wireless device to a wireless network.

    Setting Up the Network

    • To set up the network on the PSP, you'll first have to connect your PSP to the existing network. Select "Network Settings" on the "Home" menu and press the "X" button; then you'll press the "X" button again on "Infrastructure Mode." Choose "New Connection" and press the "X" button to confirm your choice and then create a name for the connection. You can name the connection whatever you like, but to make things easier in case you forget, name the connection after the connection you have for your computer network. After you've chosen a network name, press the "Right" button to move to the next screen. Enter the SSID for the Internet access point, which is the name for the Internet connection on the computer, and then press the "Right" button again to move on. Enter the password for you network connection. You'll have three choices, WEP, WPA-PSK (TKIP), and WPA-PSK (AES). The type of security your computer has will be the type that you enter. Move on to choose "Easy" on the "Address Settings" screen. Finally, you can review the settings and press "X" to save them.

    Connecting to the Internet

    • To connect to the Internet, press "X" on "WWW" on the "Home" menu. Select the address bar with the "Up" button and then press "X." Enter the Web address to which you want to navigate and press the "X" button to connect. A "Network Connection" screen will appear before the Web page comes up. To hide the screen, press the "Triangle" button. To exit the Internet, press the "O" button.
