How to Transfer UMD Games to the PC

Sony's Universal Media Disc (UMD) is the optical format used on the Sony PSP for video games and high-resolution movies. Out of the box, the PSP is not capable of transferring data from a UMD to a PC. Fortunately, there are third-party firmwares available that will allow you to do just that. Using a third-party firmware is safe and will not damage your PSP, although some can be unstable at times. You will always have the option of reverting to an official Sony firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the UMD game you want to transfer into a PSP with custom firmware version 3.52 M33 or higher.

    • 2

Start your PSP. Go to "Home" (it should be the "M33 VSH" menu) screen.

    • 3

Connect your proprietary USB cable from your PSP to your PC.

    • 4

Change "USB Device" to "UMD Game" on the Home screen. Press the "Select" button to exit.

    • 5

Scroll to the bottom of the main menu and change the device to "USB Mode." Your PC should detect the PSP shortly. Wait for a window to pop up. The file in the window should read something similar to "UMD9660 ISO Image file."

Copy that file. Paste it on your desktop. Be patient, as this can take a while. Once completed, rename the file to something easier for you to remember.
