Press "Home" at the bottom left of the PSP. Scroll through "Main Menu" until you see "Settings." Select the icon by pressing "X." Scroll through the options and select the "USB Connection" setting.
Plug the bigger, or "Standard-A," end of the USB cable into one of the USB ports on your laptop.
Plug the smaller, or "Mini-B," end of the cable into the small opening located at the top of the PSP. The PSP's memory stick should now appear in the "My Computer" folder on a PC or the "Finder" window on Mac.
