How to Connect a PSP to a Laptop

To make gaming more accessible for users constantly on the move, Sony created the PSP, or PlayStation Portable. Gamers can connect their PSP to another portable gadget, a laptop. Doing so allows users to transfer audio, video and other types of files from the PSP to the laptop or vice versa. In addition, connecting to a laptop allows users to obtain software updates for their PSP and download them to the device while on the go.

  Press "Home" at the bottom left of the PSP. Scroll through "Main Menu" until you see "Settings." Select the icon by pressing "X." Scroll through the options and select the "USB Connection" setting.

  Plug the bigger, or "Standard-A," end of the USB cable into one of the USB ports on your laptop.

  Plug the smaller, or "Mini-B," end of the cable into the small opening located at the top of the PSP. The PSP's memory stick should now appear in the "My Computer" folder on a PC or the "Finder" window on Mac.
