How to Fix a Cracked PSP Screen

A PlayStation Portable, commonly called PSP, is a handheld multimedia device capable of playing games, music and videos, as well as displaying photos and accessing the Internet. One of the distinguishing features of the PSP is its large viewing screen. The LCD screen is fragile and can be easily cracked if handled improperly. A cracked PSP repair will likely cost more than $100 to fix if sent back to Sony or an electronics repair center. If you want to save some money, you can purchase a replacement screen for $35-$60 and install it yourself.

Instructions

Remove screws from casing. There are a total of seven screws. Turn over the PSP and remove the battery from its compartment. Remove two exposed screws from this compartment. You will notice a "Warranty void if removed" sticker where the battery was once placed. Remove this sticker to expose and remove two screws. You will find two more screws on the right-hand side next to the memory card slot. One more screw can be found on the bottom side next to the serial number sticker.

Separate the plastic casing of the PSP by removing the top cover. Use a small flat-head screwdriver or razor blade to pry the metal edges silver screen brace from the LCD screen. The LCD will pop out. Fold screen down to expose the connections to the clips. Release the clips from the front by carefully lifting them with the screwdriver. If you break a clip, you will have to send your PSP into Sony for repair because these clips attach to the motherboard--be extra careful when applying pressure. Once the clips are released, your broken LCD screen will be freed.

Lay new LCD screen face down in front of PSP. Slide cables of the new screen through the clips. Once cables are in, close clips by snapping them down. Fold screen up and snap it back into the silver screen brace. Do not apply pressure directly to the screen when snapping it in (this could crack it). Press along the edges to snap it back in.

Place the cover back on PSP and securely fasten with screws. Your PSP is ready.
