How to Play Flash Videos on a PSP

A PSP is a handheld gaming system from the makers of Sony Electronics. In addition to playing games, users can also listen to music and watch videos through this device. A flash video is a video file that uses a .FLV file format. These videos are usually downloaded from the Internet or saved from embedded videos. Using a simple conversion process, it is possible to play flash videos on a PSP.

  Purchase or download a PSP video converter program. There are a number of quality converter programs available, including one you can purchase from the Aimersoft website for $29.99 (price as of 2009; see References for link). There is also a free program that can be downloaded from the DVD Video Soft website (see References).

  Turn off your computer's pop-up blocker before downloading either of the converter programs. The download will appear as a pop-up so if your computer's pop-up blocker is active, your computer will prevent the download. These programs are safe and virus-free, so turn off your pop-up blocker by clicking the "Tools" button on your browser's toolbar. Scroll through the list of options and select "Pop-up Blocker", then "Turn Off Pop-up Blocker." After the download is installed, you can repeat this step to turn the pop-up blocker on again.

  Open the converter program on your computer's desktop. Click on the "Browse" button located directly next to the "Input" window. This will open a search window that will allow you to look through your computer's hard drive to locate the flash video you would like to convert. Click on the flash video and it will open in the "Input" window, inside a converter program.

  Click on the "Format" window located in the bottom left corner of the program. Scroll through the options and select "PSP." Make a note of the location in the "Output" window; this is where the newly converter flash video will be saved on your computer. Click the "Convert" button located at the bottom right corner of the program and wait for the conversion to complete. This process should take five to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the file.

  Plug your PSP into your computer's USB slot. Press the left arrow key until the "Settings" icon is highlighted. Scroll through the settings menu and click the "USB Connection." A window will appear in the middle of your computer's desktop. Click on the button in the window that says "Open all files and folders." Click on the "PSP" folder and then the "VIDEO" folder from the window that opens. Drag the video you converted from step 4 into the folder and disconnect the PSP from the computer. The video can now be played back through your PSP.
