How to Watch Saved Videos on a PSP

The Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) was designed to be a multimedia device. Although it was made primarily to play games, it can also play music and video files. The easiest way to view movies is to purchase the UMD-formatted movies made specifically for the PSP. However, you can also watch homemade and downloaded video files on your PSP as long as you follow a few simple procedures.

Things You'll Need

  • Memory Stick
  • PC with memory stick slot or mini-USB cord

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your memory stick in your PC's memory stick slot, or connect your PSP to your computer via the mini-USB cord provided by the manufacturer.

    • 2

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the memory stick. It will be assigned a drive letter (such as F:/ or G:/), whether it is in a memory stick slot or still in the PSP.

    • 3

Open the Video folder on the memory stick. Then copy and paste your saved video files into this folder. Note that the PSP can only play .MP4 or .AVI files. If you have files in another format that you want to watch on the PSP, you will need to convert them. Consult the link provided below for information on how to do this.

    • 4

Remove the memory stick from the PC or unplug the PSP from the computer. Restart your PSP.

    • 5

Go to the PSP's main menu. Select Video, and you should see a series of thumbnail images of your move files. Simply select the video file you want to watch and press the X button. Your video file should begin.
