How to Emulate Your PSP

You can emulate a Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) handheld console on your PC with just a few simple downloads. Setting up the right configuration takes only a small amount of time, and soon you can play your PSP games on your computer, using whatever interface you like, as well as enjoying the larger screen size of the PC's monitor. Although the emulators will limit the multimedia and networking capabilities available on the PSP's hardware, the most important part of the device, games, can certainly be emulated with no problems.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Download one of the two PSP emulators listed from the site below. There are currently few stable emulators available for free, but the two offered here (Potemkin and PSPE) both operate smoothly with no security or virus risks.

    • 2

Install the emulator software after it has downloaded. To do this, double-click on the ".exe" file that comes with the download. Write down the directory where the program and associated files were installed according to the information provided during installation.

    • 3

Open Windows Explorer, and go to the emulator's folder. Open the folder titled "Games," or, if you do not see a "Games" folder, create one in the following manner. In Windows Explorer, click "Organize" on the top menu bar. Then click "New Folder." Title the folder "Games," and then be sure that it is right inside the emulator folder.

    • 4

Open the "Games" folder, and move all of your PSP ISOs (digital copies of PSP games) to the "Games" folder. If you have not made ISOs of your PSP games, then you must do so before you can play them. Follow the instructions at the link provided below in order to convert your games.

Start your emulator program, and load the ISO from the File menu. Note that you will likely have to customize your input settings. Click on Tools from the top menu of either piece of software, and select the settings option. Then you can choose which keyboard or mouse button will correspond to the PSP's buttons.
