Things You'll Need
Instructions
Check the battery levels of the PSP. After the device is turned on, use the directional pad to move left all the way. You should be under the "Settings" category. Scroll down to "System Settings" and press "X." Now, find "Battery Information" and click it. This shows the battery charge level and how much time is left before the battery runs out. The charge needs to be at 78 percent and higher to update.
Update to the latest firmware. Turn the W-Lan switch on. This is on the top of the PSP. At the top of the "Settings Category" is "Network Update." After you click this, you will need to set up the wireless settings if you did not do this yet. Skip Step 3 if you already set up the wireless settings.
Select "New Connection" to set up the connection the quickest, or scan for Wi-Fi or enter in one manually. Select the access point you want to use, and keep using the right directional button to move to the next step. Follow the steps such as entering the password, choosing settings for the address and naming the connection.
Select the connection you will use, and wait for it to connect. The PSP will then download the latest update for the system. Updating is important because it provides access to new features like the Playstation Network.
Turn off automatic Universal Media Discs playback (UMD) when the PSP is turned on. Under "System Settings" is "UMD Auto-Start." If all you will be doing is playing UMD's, then keep it on. Otherwise, turn it off.
Change the background or theme. Find "Theme Settings" under "Settings." There are three options available. "Theme" changes the original theme to any others on the memory stick. "Color" lets you change the color of the background. "Background" changes the background to a theme or a picture on the memory stick.
