Removing the PSP cover
In order to access the UMD cover, you must remove the plastic cover on the back of the PSP. Turn the PSP on its front and remove both the battery and battery cover.
Near the battery compartment are four silver screws. Use the Philips screwdriver to remove them all.
With the PSP still on its front, find the other two screws on the right side---one at the top and another at the bottom. Remove them both.
Lift the PSP. On the bottom (near the serial number), you will find one more screw. This is the final screw that needs to be removed.
With a firm grip, carefully remove the cover. Keep the screws and cover nearby for reattachment.
Removing the Home bar and LCD Display
With the case now removed, the Home bar, or Volume bar, is now exposed. Insert the flat-head screwdriver under the left side of the bar and gently press upward until it is removed. You may have an easier time using the knife.
Detach the flex cable by lifting upward and sliding out. Once you are familiar with the entire process, you can choose to keep the cable connected and work around it.
Slide the flat-head screwdriver under the bottom right corner of the LCD screen and gently pry upward. Do the same for the top right. This will allow the entire LCD screen to be lifted upward.
To completely remove the LCD screen, open the metal display clips to remove the LCD screen.
Detach the LCD screen from the PSP. When you put it down, do not set the screen on its face.
Removing the UMD Cover
Where the LCD screen used to be, you will see three black screws along the bottom left. Remove the screw on the far right only.
On the bottom right, you will see a single black screw. Remove it.
Hold the PSP and open the UMD door. Firmly press the left and right sides of the UMD door and pull the cover out. You may have to toggle it slightly to get it free. Do not force it out.
