The Sony PlayStation Portable, or PSP, is mainly used to play video games on the go. But the PSP doesn’t just play games; it’s actually a multimedia player. You can download and play MP3s and video clips by using the PSP Memory Stick Duo. You even can watch full-length movies on specially formatted Universal Media Disks (UMDs). This iDisk format has its limitations–you can’t record over an existing UMD or copy a DVD to a UMD. The good news is that playing a UMD on your PSP is as simple as starting up a game.

Press the Home button on your PSP to bring up the menu.

On the Home menu, select the movie icon.

Open the PSP cover and insert the UMD. Close the PSP cover.

Wait a few seconds for the UMD to load. An icon for the UMD movie will display on the PSP screen.
If you don't see the movie icon, you may have to press the left arrow button to scroll through your files until you find it.

Select the movie icon, and press the X button on your PSP to play the movie.
