How to Run Games on a PSP

Sony's portable gaming unit is the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, a compact version of Sony's trademark PlayStation gaming console. In addition to playing games, the PSP can store and play music, movies and images. The PSP comes with limited internal memory and requires a memory card for storage and game play. The PSP uses small discs called Universal Media Discs (UMD) to play games and movies. Full-sized discs are not compatible with the PSP.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out the memory card slot cover on the left-hand side of the PSP to access the memory card port. Insert a compatible Duo or PRO Duo memory stick with the printed side turned upside down and facing you. Push the card in until it clicks into place.

Turn the PSP over so the large "PSP" logo is facing you. The middle partition is a slot cover for the disc reader. Locate the small groove at the top left of this partition and use it to pull the cover open. Insert your UMD game disc with the plastic case upside down and the printed side facing the cover.

    • 3

Turn on your PSP by lifting the sliding power button on the right side of the unit until a green light comes on. Wait for your PSP to load. Your game may automatically start once the PSP is finished loading.

If the game does not automatically begin, scroll to the "Game" menu from the main screen. The "Game" menu has an icon of the traditional PlayStation controller. Select the "UMD" disc from the "Game" menu by pressing the "X" button while the selection is highlighted. While the "UMD" option is highlighted, the PSP will automatically access game data from the disc to change the background to a preview of the game.
