How to Check the Motherboard on a PSP

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld multimedia device from Sony. Using this device, the user can play games, watch movies, access the Internet as well as listen to music. The PSP runs off an internal motherboard system similar to that of a computer's. If the motherboard gets damaged or the user thinks it might be damaged, it may become necessary to check and make sure the motherboard is intact.

  1. How to Check the Motherboard on a PSP

    • 1

Flip the PSP over and remove the internal batter pack. To do this, slide the plastic covering off the device located at the left side of the back of the PSP. The battery pack will simply lift out after the covering has been removed. Once the battery pack has been removed, unscrew the screw from each corner of the battery housing

    • 2

Locate and remove the screw from the bottom of the device. Flip the PSP over and remove the screws from the right top and bottom corners. This allows you to remove the front face plate of the device.

    • 3

Place the small screwdriver's tip into the opening at the bottom left corner of the PSP's screen. Carefully lift up and you will remove the bottom strip that holds the screen down. Follow the strip back to the body of the PSP and lift up the plastic tab that holds it down.

    • 4

Wiggle the screen free from the PSP's body and lift up slowly. You will see the screen is connected by 2 wires. Exactly as you did in Step 3, locate the plastic tabs that hold these connections down and lift them up. Now that the screen is not connected to the PSP, set it aside.

    • 5

Remove the protective metal plate from above the motherboard by unscrewing the screws located at each of the plate's corners. Once the metal plate is removed, you will be able to check the motherboard for any damage or lose connections.
