How to Fix a DNS Error on a PSP

The PSP connects to the Internet with little effort most of the time. Occasionally, a DNS error pops up that prevents the unit from accessing a WiFi network. DNS errors on this portable console are fixed in much the same way that DNS errors are fixed on a personal computer. A person who encounters a DNS error on his PSP should follow the steps below to get back on the Internet.

Things You'll Need

  • Wireless router
  • Pen or pencil
  • CD for the router or the router's IP address

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PSP. Make sure the WiFi switch is on. DNS errors often fix themselves if the user turns the PSP off and does not turn it back on for 3 or more minutes. If the error clears up, the problem is fixed and you can ignore the remaining steps.

    • 2

Reset the network's router. Sometimes the problem is not with the PSP, but rather with the router that serves as a gateway to the network. Use a pen or pencil to press the router's reset button. Routers can also be reset by turning them off for 15 seconds. Check to see if the DNS error has been cleared. If this does not fix the error, the user should proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Change the router's settings. Type "192.168.1.1" into a browser window. You may have to log in. Otherwise, pop the CD into the computer you are using, and change the SSID and WEP protocol.

Reboot the PSP. Turn the unit off and turn it on again. See if rebooting the PSP causes the DNS error to clear.
