How to Fix a Broken PSP LCD Screen

A playstation portable, or PSP, as it is commonly called, is a hand-held multimedia device with a number of functions. With this device, a user can play games, listen to music, watch movies, look at photos and access the Internet. However, the PSP's screen can become cracked or damaged through normal wear and tear. If this happens, it is not necessary to buy a whole new unit as the LCD screen can easily be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws that hold the PSP's faceplate down. These are located on the back four corners of the PSP. The left two are underneath the battery pack so you will need to remove the battery to find them. Also, remove the one screw directly in the middle on the bottom of the device.

    • 2

Gently pull up to separate the faceplate from the PSP. Using the flat edge of a butter knife or razor blade, wedge the borders of the screen up so that the LCD screen becomes loose and can be pulled out of place.

    • 3

Locate where the 1-inch film-like strip connects the LCD screen to the PSP's body. Pull up on the tab that holds it in place so that it is no longer connected. There is a second thin wire that leads from the screen to the PSP's body that will need to be removed in exactly the same way as the first one in order to pull the screen completely free.

    • 4

Attach the new replacement screen to the PSP, making sure the connections are attached to the same locations from which you removed the old screen's connection. Push the plastic tabs down to hold the connections in place, and reinsert the screen into the metal rectangular border that is allotted for it.

Refit the faceplate back onto the PSP, and reinsert the screws into the back and underside of the device. Slide the battery back into place, and turn the PSP on to confirm that the new screen works properly.
