Instructions

    • 1

Buy an optical sound cable and plug it into the back of your surround sound receiver. This is the little box that came with your surround sound set. See your owner's manual for more on the parts of your surround sound system if you're unsure where the receiver is.

Make sure your speakers are set up correctly. Each surround sound speaker system has an optimum speaker placement that's detailed in the owner's manual. However, you may find that an alternate speaker placement may suit your needs better. See the Resources section below for a link to more information about surround sound speaker placement.

Turn on the PS3 and log in. Once the cross media bar pops up, go all the way to the left side until you see the "Settings" icon. Then press "X" to bring up a sub-menu.

    • 4

Scroll down until you see "sound settings." You'll see an option that says "Optical sound cable." Press "Enable" for the cable to start transmitting sound to your surround sound receiver. Once you start up a Dolby-enhanced movie or game, you'll be able to hear the difference with your new surround sound scheme.
