Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine how much free space in on your PSP. Since the PSP has a limited amount of internal memory, a memory card with at least 512 MB is recommended for music storage.
Create a new folder on your desktop especially for your music files. Drag all of your music files into this file, regardless of format. Then create another folder with nothing inside. This folder will eventually contain your formatted files.
Format your music. Use a program like Format Factory to convert all the files in the first folder to the PSP-friendly MP3 format. Simply open the program, and click on the PSP audio icon to begin the process. Then press the "browse" button to select the folder with your files, and then select the second folder you made in step 2 as the target folder. Click the OK button to finish the process. This may take a few minutes depending on the volume of files you are converting.
Connect your PSP to your computer using a mini-USB cord. Connect the small end of the cord to the PSP and plug it in to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. If this is the first time you have connected your PSP to the computer, some drivers will need to be installed before moving on to the next step. This process is automated and merely requires you to click through some prompts. When you are finished, your PSP will enter "USB Mode" and the screen will display this status.
Select your PSP from "My Computer," and then double-click to find the PSP's "music" folder. Then drag the contents of the target folder (which contains your converted files) into this music folder to initiate the transfer process. A transfer status bar will pop up letting you know that the transfer is in progress. Once this window disappears, the transfer is complete, and your music will be available on your PSP via the cross media bar.
Press the circle button on your PSP to exit USB mode. This will allow you to safely disconnect your PSP from the computer.
