How to Put Songs & Videos on a PSP

Although the PSP primarily functions as a video game device, it can also be used as a music and video player. However, getting music and videos from your computer to your PSP will require a little bit of effort, and just a touch of computer know-how. But once you go through the process once, it will become very easy to swap songs and video between your computer and PSP.

Determine how much space you have on your PSP for media. Since your PSP has very limited internal memory, you will need a memory card with a minimum of 512 MB to store any media. It is recommended that if you don't have a lot of space on your normal memory card that you purchase one especially for the music and video.

    • 2

Put media in a special folder on your desktop. Drag all of the videos and music you want into this folder, and make sure that you have enough space on your media card. You can check how much data is in the folder by highlighting it and clicking on the "Properties" tab. If the media in the folder is less than the storage capacity of your memory card by more than 50MB, then you will be able to transfer it all. If it is over the limit, you will need another memory card or will need to go through your media.

Use a mini-USB cord to connect your PSP to your computer. Connect the small end of the cord to the PSP and plug it in to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. If you have never connected your PSP to your computer before then you will have to install some drivers before moving to the next step. When you are finished, your PSP will enter "USB Mode."

Select your PSP from the "My Computer" menu and create music and video folders. The music folder can be created in the regular PSP folder, but the new video folder must be created in the "MP_ROOT" folder. Although there is already a "videos" folder, this is not a folder that will allow PC transfers. Once these folders have been created, you can drag your media to them.

Disconnect your PSP. Click on the circle button on your PSP to exit USB mode, and then unplug the cords. Your media will now be available via the cross-media bar.
