How to Change the Save Data Icon for a PSP

The Play Station Portable (PSP) hand held gaming system offers many great features, among them the ability to customize the icons that show up for game saves. Follow these instructions to change save data icons on your PSP.

Instructions

    • 1

Connected your PSP to your computer's USB port using a PSP data cable. Turn on your PSP. In the Settings, locate the "USB Connection" item and press "X".

    • 2

Wait while your computer connects with your PSP and downloads the drivers necessary for your computer and PSP to communicate. On your computer desktop, double-click on "My Computer", then on "Removable Disk". View the contents of "Memory Stick Duo" and go into the folder called "SAVEDATA".

    • 3

Search for the save for which you wish to change an icon. Each folder listed in "SAVEDATA" represents a separate save, and some are more clearly named than others. You may need to open each folder and double-click on the file called "ICON0.PSP" to locate the right save.

    • 4

Locate the correct save. Copy the "ICON0.PSP" file for that save to create a backup, and give it a new name. Right-click the original "ICON0.PSP" file and choose "Edit" to open it in the MS Paint editing program.

    • 5

Edit the icon and save the final version as ICON0.PSP. Ensure that the final size is 144 pixels by 80 pixels before saving. Close MS Paint.

    • 6

Return to your PSP and press the circle button to exit USB mode. Locate the "Game" menu. Go to "Save Data Utility" and press the "X" button to see your saves, including the new icon.
