How to Pair Samsung Galaxy S III and PSP With Hot Spot

The Samsung Galaxy S III comes with a hot spot feature that essentially turns your smartphone into a small router. Since all PSP models have built-in Wi-Fi, you can connect your PSP to the Samsung Galaxy S III whenever the hot spot is switched on. Once successfully paired, your Sony PSP can access the Internet providing that your smartphone's mobile connection is enabled and the smartphone is within range. This can be useful if you are in an area with no Internet-enabled hot spots nearby.

Instructions

  1. Enabling The Galaxy S III Wireless Hot Spot

    • 1

Go to the Home screen of your Galaxy S III and swipe your finger downward on the top status bar to bring up the notification pane. Tap the mobile data icon to activate your mobile Internet, if you wish to share it with your PSP. Tap the gear icon on the upper-right corner of the notification pane to open the Settings app.

    • 2

Tap "More Settings" in the Settings app and go to "Tethering and portable hotspot." Tap the toggle switch next to Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot, if the switch is currently grey, to turn on the hot spot feature. Tap the "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" label to open up the Options menu

    • 3

Tap the small arrow icon located under the toggle switch and choose the "Allow All Devices" option in the Connection Mode box.

    • 4

Tap the "Configure" button on the bottom of the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot screen and change the Network SSID to something you can easily recognize. Set the Security field to WPA PSK, for compatibility purposes, and set a password in the Password text box to something you can remember later. Tap the "Save" button and leave the Galaxy S III idle.

    Connecting The Sony PSP

    • 5

Go to the Sony PSP menu and touch the "Settings" icon. In that menu, scroll down to "Network Settings" and enter that menu. Pick "Infrastructure Mode" so you can connect to your Samsung Galaxy S III.

    • 6

Go to "[New Connection]" and select "Scan." Wait for the scanning process to finish and pick the access point name that matches your Galaxy S III hot spot. Choose WPA-PSK (TKIP) from the WLAN Security Setting selections.

    • 7

Enter the access point password you assigned to your Galaxy S III earlier in the WPA Key field. In the Address Settings selection, choose "Easy." Keep pressing the right button on your PSP, until you cannot go further and press the "X" button to save the settings. If you entered the correct WPA key, your PSP will be paired with your Samsung Galaxy S III.
