How to Make a WiFi Booster for PSP Using a Plastic Cup

One of the things you can do with a PlayStation Portable is use the built-in WiFi card so you don't have to be in the same room with your Internet connection. The range is limited, however. While there are antennas you can buy to boost the range of your WiFi signal, it's easy and cheaper to build your own out of a plastic cup and some other materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic cup
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tape
  • Craft knife
  • WiFi dongle
  • USB extension

Instructions

    • 1

Tear off a piece of tape and roll it into a small loop, with the adhesive on the outside. Place the tape inside the bottom of a plastic cup.

    • 2

Line the inside of the cup with a sheet of aluminum foil, pressing it against the tape to help it stick in place. Make the aluminum as smooth as possible. Fold excess aluminum foil over the lip of the cup and tape it in place.

    • 3

Cut a small rectangular hole using the craft knife. Make the hole just big enough for the WiFi dongle to fit. The antenna portion of the dongle should be inside the cup and use tape to hold it in place.

    • 4

Plug the USB extension into the dongle's connector, then plug the other end into the PSP's USB port.

    • 5

Point the booster in the direction of your Internet WiFi source. The range and reception should besignificantly increased.
