The Action Replay for My PSP Won't Install

Action Replay is a program that allows you to use cheat codes with a PSP UMD, or game disc, during game play. Action Replay for PSP uses its own memory card that replaces the PSP memory stick. In order for Action Replay to install on a PSP, the battery needs to be "switched" to a different setting with the Action Replay Battery Enabler. Another installation problem with Action Replay for PSP may be the PSP Action Replay code update installation failure, which is caused by outdated PSP firmware.
  1. Replay Battery Enabler

    • The battery of the PSP must be used with the Action Replay Batter Enabler or Action Replay will not install. To do this, fully charge the PSP battery by plugging the PSP into an electrical outlet. An orange light power indicator on the PSP will turn on while the battery is charging and will turn off once the battery is fully charged. Remove the fully charged PSP battery.

    Battery Compatibility

    • Certain types of PSP batteries aren't compatible with the battery enabler, and this incompatibility may prevent the installation of the Action Replay program. Examine the PSP battery label. If it says "Model PSP-S110, Made in China" the battery may not work with the battery enabler. Insert the PSP battery into the Action Replay Battery Enabler. If none of the LEDs on the Enabler turn on, the battery is fully charged and your PSP battery label says "Made in China," then the battery is not compatible. If the PSP battery is compatible with Action Replay, the right LED on the Action Replay Battery enabler will turn on. Push the button on the Enabler to turn on the left light and change the setting of the battery. Remove the battery and reinstall it into the PSP.

    Memory Card

    • In order to install Action Replay onto your PSP, you must use the Action Replay memory card with the device, because it has files saved on it that are needed in order to run the program. Turn off the PSP. Remove the memory stick from the PSP and slide the Action Replay memory card into the PSP. When you turn on the PSP the Action Replay files should automatically install on the PSP. If you reformatted the Action Replay memory card, you won't be able to use Action Replay on your PSP, as the program files saved on the card have been deleted.

    PSP Updates

    • Sometimes a PC will not detect a connected PSP, so the Action Replay code updates cannot install on the device. This problem may be caused by attempting to install Action Replay software onto a PSP with outdated firmware. To check for updates, turn on the PSP and the WLAN switch on the PSP. Go to "Settings," select "System Update" and press the "X" button. A list of the available WLAN connections will appear onscreen. Select your WLAN connection to connect to the PSP Network and download the update. After the update has finished downloading, press "X" to install it. The PSP will restart after installation. To check that the update installed properly, go to "Settings," select "System Settings" and press "X". Select "System Information" and the recent System update will be listed.

    Action Replay Codes

    • The Action Replay PSP PC Installer setup program that allows you to update your PSP Action Replay cheat code list can be downloaded from the gamer site Code Junkies. After the Action Replay for PSP PC is installed, go to the "Start menu" by clicking on the Windows icon located on the lower left corner of the PC screen. Select "All Programs." Click on "Action Replay for PSP Installer" to start the program. Connect the PSP to your PC with a USB cable adapter that has a "Mini-B" camera-type connector on one end and a "Standard-A" USB connector on the other. Once the cable has been attached to the PSP and the USB port of the PC, you can manually put the PSP into USB mode by selecting "Settings" and then selecting "USB Connection." Follow any directions that appear on the PC screen to install Action Replay for PSP and get the current code list for your PSP. Copy the updated Action Replay codes to the "PSP/Common" folder located on the Action Replay memory card. Disconnect the PSP from your PC, then insert the game UMD into the device to play.
