How to Put an SNES EMU on a PSP

Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) console offers high quality gameplay of video games on a portable electronic device. The PSP's operating system also allows for various files to be uploaded to the device through a USB connection with your home computer. PSP devices utilizing custom firmware are capable of running various additional programs, such as console emulators for the Super NES (SNES).

Instructions

    • 1

Upload custom firmware to your PlayStation Portable device. Custom firmware, as opposed to the official firmware updates available through Sony, enables a user to retain normal functionality with the PSP while also providing a framework that allows additional programming, such as emulators. (See References 1, section titled "What is Custom Firmware?") One custom firmware option for the PSP is known as M33 firmware, and it is available for download through the website PSP-Hacks. (See References 2) To upload the firmware, run the file download after connecting the PSP to your computer through the USB cable.

    • 2

Download a Super NES emulator compatible with the PSP. One such program available for free download is snes9xTYL. (See References 3) Unzip the file, if necessary, so that it creates a file containing the emulator and all necessary accessory programs.

    • 3

Open the "Games" folder on your PSP. Create a new folder to store the SNES EMU programs. You can name this folder whatever you like.

    • 4

Import the files unzipped from your SNES EMU download to the PSP folder you created. Your PlayStation Portable must be connected to your computer to complete this action. (See References 4, approx. 1:40 into the movie)
