Open your computer's web browser and navigate to us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/psp/pc/index.htm
Click the black "DOWNLOAD NOW" button and save the PSP update file to your computer.
Plug your PSP into a wall outlet using the PSP's AC adapter.
Connect your PSP to your computer using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer automatically recognizes your PSP and displays its contents in an Explorer window.
Right-click the Explorer window and click "New" > "Folder" in the menu. Name the new folder "PSP."
Double-click the PSP folder to open it. Right-click the Explorer window and click "New" > "Folder" in the menu. Name the new subfolder "GAME."
Double-click the GAME folder to open it. Right-click the Explorer window and click "New" > "Folder" in the menu. Name the new subfolder "UPDATE."
Click and drag the update file that you downloaded from your computer to the UPDATE subfolder that you just created.
Right-click the hardware removal icon on the right side of the Windows taskbar and eject the PSP device from your computer system.
Restart your PSP. The PSP boots to its game menu.
Press the directional pad to highlight "Game" and then press the X button.
Press the directional pad to highlight "System Storage" and then press the X button.
Press the directional pad to highlight the "PSP Update" icon and press the X button. Doing so updates your PSP to the latest version of the official Sony PSP firmware and removes the 5.50 GEN-D2 firmware from your system.
