How to Get a VBA Emulator on the PSP

Owners of the Sony PlayStation Portable have learned to enjoy their hardware for the many features it offers in addition to playing native PSP games. You can transfer media and other files to your PSP and, in some cases, run custom software. One especially popular use for your PSP is playing Game Boy Advance (GBA) games using the venerable Visual Boy Advance (VBA) emulator. This emulator, like most hardware emulators, plays games in the form of ROM cartridge images on hardware not originally designed to handle the game. You can install VBA on your PSP and play your favorite GBA games without needing to carry around a second set of hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your PSP into your computer using a USB cable.

    • 2

Select the "Settings" icon on the "Home" menu on your PSP. Select the "USB Connection" option to allow your computer to recognize your PSP.

    • 3

Download PSPVBA to your computer from its website. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to your desktop.

    • 4

Open the "Game" subdirectory within the "PSP" directory on your PlayStation Portable. You can access this directory while the PSP is plugged into your computer by opening the "My Computer" window from your desktop and locating the PSP in the list of devices.

    • 5

Copy the PSPVBA files from your desktop to the "Game" folder.

    • 6

Transfer any ROM image files from your computer to the "Roms" subdirectory within PSPVBA.
