PSP Black Vs. White

The PlayStation Portable is a handheld video-gaming console developed by Sony. The company released the original PSP -- also referred to as the PSP-1000 -- in the United States in 2005. The PSP-1000 is black in color and has never been released in white. However, Sony has released limited edition white versions of the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000, two upgraded versions of the original PSP-1000. Apart from the color of the chassis, the black and white versions of both devices are identical in terms of specifications.
  1. Identification

    • Both the black and white versions of the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 measure 6.7 inches wide, 2.8 inches tall and 0.75 inches thick at their thickest points. All four devices weigh approximately 6.7 ounces before optional upgrades and accessories, and without any game discs loaded. Black and white versions of both devices are powered by Sony CXD1876 processors based around the MIPS R4000 chip with clock speeds of 333MHz. All four versions have 64MB of RAM.

Both versions of the PSP-3000 have improved pixel response times and higher contrast ratios than black and white versions of the PSP-2000. All four devices play back audio via integrated stereo speakers. Onboard media players on all devices feature compatibility with MPEG-4, H.264 and AVI video files, and WMA, MP3, WAV, ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus audio files. Black and white versions of the PSP-3000 have built-in microphones, while versions of the PSP-2000 don̵7;t.

    Disc Media and Controls

    • Black and white versions of the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 use Universal Media Discs. These discs have dual-layer storage capacities of 1.8GB and transfer rates of up to 11 megabits per second. The controls available on the black and white versions of both devices include left and right triggers, an analog joystick, start button, select button, directional buttons, a PS button, sound button and display button, as well as circle, square, cross and triangle keys.
