How to Type on Skype on PSP

When Sony introduced the PSP 2000 series into the marketplace, it introduced more than a simple handheld gaming system -- it introduced a portable device that could browse the Internet, make phone calls and connect with other gamers over a Wi-Fi connection. To make VoIP phone calls on the PSP, you must first download Skype by clicking on the "Network Update" icon on your PSP home screen. Once downloaded, you can establish your Skype settings directly on the device by using the on-screen keyboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Skype on your PSP. Upon starting the application, you are prompted to either sign in or create an account. For either of these options, you need to type your information into the Skype interface, at least the first time you set up the Skype application on your PSP.

    • 2

Use the on-screen keyboard to type text into the Skype application. The keyboard resembles that of a cellphone keyboard, with 10 alphanumeric keys.

    • 3

Tap the key that corresponds to the number or letter you want to type into the Skype field. To enter a letter, tap the corresponding key repeatedly until the correct letter appears. To enter the letter "F," for example, you need to tap the "3" key three times. Make sure you tap quickly or the PSP will think you've reached the correct letter and will move on to the next character.

    • 4

Continue typing text in this fashion until you've entered all of the necessary information. Although text messaging isn't supported on Skype for PSP, this keyboard appears anytime you need to enter your username information, update your profile or enter a phone number into Skype.
